Jerold "Jerry"  Majerus
Jerold “Jerry” F. Majerus, 90, a resident of Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility in Plymouth, passed away on March 16, 2017.
Jerry was born on July 8, 1926 in Sheboygan Falls to Joseph and Agnes (Vander Grinten) Majerus. Jerry was a 1944 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. He served his country in the United States Army, serving in the European Theater during WWII, followed by a tour of duty in Germany at the Nurnberg War Trials. When he returned home he attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Education and Human Services. He received his Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1953. On January 31, 1948 he married Lois Kilton. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1998. Through the years, Jerry worked for Sheboygan, Eau Claire and Dane Counties, and ended his career with the State of Wisconsin Department of Social Services until his retirement in 1983.
Jerry was a member of The American Public Welfare Association, The National Association of Social Workers, The child Welfare League of America, and The Wisconsin Social Services Association, where he was past president and an honorary life member. After his retirement Jerry and his wife, Lois, moved to Mirror Lake in Sauk County. While there he volunteered at a number of local agencies and services, including: The Community Action Committee and he was past president of St. Vincent De Paul in Wisconsin Dells. He and Lois enjoyed traveling the world together.
Jerry is survived by his son-in-law, Anthony Rees-Thomas; three grandchildren, Toby and Bethel Caputo and Ana Rees-Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois; a son, David; two daughters, Lynndee Caputo and Holly Rees-Thomas; six brothers, Leo, Bernard, Gordon, Lawrence, Eugene “Thomas”, and Raymond; and one sister, Mary.
A Christian memorial mass to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11 am at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls, with Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Following the service, an inurnment will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the church from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Blessed Trinity Parish in Jerry’s name.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at New Perspective of Sun Prairie, Heartland Hospice and the Rocky Knoll Health Care Center for their special care and kindness to Jerry.
