Obituary for Elsie Jeanette Nyenhuis (Mentink)

Elsie Jeanette Nyenhuis (Mentink)
Elsie Jeanette (Mentink) Nyenhuis, age 95, of Oostburg, passed away June 19, 2016, at Pine Haven Home.
She was born June 7, 1921, the daughter of Louis and Jennie (Wassink) Mentink. Elsie married Wilbert Nyenhuis on September 1, 1943 in Hingham.
Elsie loved her Lord and dedicated her life to following Him. She had her struggles as we all do but she knew she was a child of God and she rested her faith tightly in Him. We will always cherish the memory of her being in her Bible every day and living a life of prayer. We are thankful for the legacy of faith she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Elsie lived a life of love and commitment to her husband Wilbert for 72 years. She stood alongside him as he served in WWII and began raising their family alone while he was overseas. She was a hard worker as she served as a custodian of both Bethel OP Church and Oostburg Christian School. She made many sacrifices in life so her children could reap the benefits of Christian education. She volunteered in countless ways for both church and her children’s schools. She also enjoyed family history and genealogy, flowers and music,
Time invested in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was special to Elsie. She was known as “the game Grandma” as she spent countless hours playing with the kids at her home. Through that time lessons were taught by her of fairness, patience, spelling, sharing, losing, winning, and laughter.
Elsie is survived by her husband Wilbert of Oostburg; her children Thomas (Sandra) Nyenhuis of Menomonee Falls, Susan (Alfred) Gross of Elkhart Lake, and Jennifer (Brian) Gabrielse of Madison; her grandchildren, John (Debbie) Nyenhuis, Jason (Stacy) Nyenhuis, Kathryn Banwell, Jessica (Chris) Kolff, Amy Gross, Stephanie (Heath) Clark, Jeff (Chelsea) Gabrielse, and Kimberly Gabrielse, along with 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Nelda VanEss of Sheboygan Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, John and Peternella Nyenhuis; one son, Steven (Janet) Nyenhuis; one brother, Harold (Gladys) Mentink; and one sister, Delilah (George) Messner.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 609 Center Ave in Oostburg at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 with Rev. John Tinsley, officiating. Burial will be at Hartman Cemetery in the Town of Wilson.
Visitation will be held at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 am.
